Cancer Screening Vigil
Cancer Screening Vigil July 2007
Following the successful reinstatement of Brachytherapy treatment and the planned commissioning of Wales own centre at Velindre in Cardiff, members of the action group are now planning a Cancer Screening Vigil to be held at the Senedd in July 2007.
Jayne Sullivan the Herceptin campaigner, Reg Williams from the Prostate Screening Trust, will be holding the event on the 3rd & 4th July in the main hall and committee room of the Senedd at the Welsh Assembly, Cardiff Bay.
The main objective will be to promote and lobby Assembly Members support for screening all cancers within Wales following the May elections.
Throughout the two days there were appearances by celebrities and musical performances to lighten this important issue.
The event was open to Cancer organisations, charities, agencies, interested companies and members of the public who wished to contribute their experiences, expertise to help formulate patient's interests and needs for future Welsh Cancer policies.

The event attracted thousands of supporters and all singed individual letter to the Health Minister requesting the immediate introduction of a sub committee to review cancer screening.
On 18th October 2007 these were handed in at the Welsh Assemble and have been accepted for presentation to the Petitions Committee for consideration.
Using the new powers granted to the Assemble we are waiting for this petition to be forwarded to the Health Committee
